Wishing You All a Wonderful Thanksgiving Break!
One of the most impactful sessions I attended at the recent AI Summit was not about productivity or grading—it was about human connection. As we navigate a changing educational landscape, the mental health of our students, families, and staff remains our absolute priority.
I am pleased to share information regarding our alignment with the Cook Center for Human Connection, an organization dedicated to the goal of ending suicide and providing comprehensive support systems for schools.
Here are a couple of the resources and innovations I think are worth exploring.
Support for Parents: We know that supporting a child often means supporting their guardians. Through ParentGuidance.org, families can access coaching, counseling, and resources developed by professionals (including Dr. Skinner) to help them navigate complex parenting challenges
. "My Life is Worth Living": This resource offers animated stories designed to connect with students, helping them feel seen and understood, while providing accompanying support for parents
.
Technology is often viewed as a source of stress, but partners like the Cook Center are showing us how it can be used to build a safety net around our community.
I want to highlight updates to the Google tools you already use, which are evolving to save you time and deepen student inquiry.
What’s New?
Gemini in Google Classroom: Google is integrating Gemini directly into our workflows. Think of this as a brainstorming partner that can help you differentiate lessons, generate rubric ideas, or draft communications
. NotebookLM & Deep Research: This is a game-changer for research projects. NotebookLM allows you to upload specific documents (PDFs, Google Docs, etc.) and creates an AI expert on only those documents. It can now also perform "Deep Research," helping students synthesize information from verified sources
. Gems: These are customizable versions of Gemini that you can instruct to act in specific ways (e.g., a "Creative Writing Coach" or a "Math Tutor") to support diverse learner needs
.
The Most Important Detail: Your Data is Safe
I know that "AI" often brings up valid concerns about data privacy. I want to be very clear about the agreement we have with Google Education.
During the summit, Google explicitly confirmed the following protections for our education domain:
Your data is NOT used to train their AI models.
Your data is NOT shared with other users or organizations.
There are NO ads associated with this customer data.
We own our data, not Google.
We are excited to see how you "mold the Play-Doh"
I hope you all have a wonderful break! Happy Thanksgiving
