Welcome Back, FBUSD!
As we begin a new school year, I want to welcome everyone back and share how excited I am about the year ahead. I hope each of you found time this summer to rest, recharge, and connect with the people and activities that bring you joy.
I also want to recognize the many staff members who dedicated part of their summer to professional learning:
Staff from Dana Gray Elementary, Fort Bragg Middle School, and Fort Bragg High School participated in AVID training.
Our Alternative Education team attended the Big Picture Learning Big Bang Conference.
10 district employees participated in Restorative Practices training, while additional staff completed advanced training to prepare them to train and support others.
Approximately 12 employees completed ProAct training facilitated by two of our own teachers. A special thank-you to Ashton and Ksenia for sharing their expertise and leading this important work.
These staff members invested their time not only in their own growth, but also in strengthening the support we provide to students, colleagues, and families across the district. Thank you to everyone who participated.
This year, our professional focus will be on adult wellness and adult social-emotional learning. The work we do is challenging and deeply important. Caring for ourselves and one another helps us remain present, connected, and effective for our students.
Our academic priorities will include strengthening math instruction and improving outcomes for our multilingual learners. Through collaboration, focused professional learning, and shared responsibility for every student, we will continue working to ensure that all students have access to meaningful learning and the support they need to succeed.
Our Community Schools program will also continue connecting students, families, staff, and community partners with valuable resources and opportunities. I hope you will join us for the Family Wellness Fair on August 14 from 3:00–5:00 p.m. in the north parking lot at Fort Bragg High School. This will be a wonderful opportunity to come together and begin the year as a community.
Thank you for everything you have done to prepare for the return of our students. I am grateful for the care, commitment, and energy you bring to FBUSD, and I look forward to a positive and productive school year together.

Classified Employees of Fort Bragg Unified School District who are eligible under the California School Employees Association (CSEA) agreement may sign up using the form on the left. Employees must pass the Bilingual Proficiency Assessment online test with a score of eighty (80) percent or better to be considered "proficient."
The Bilingual Proficiency Assessment may be taken one (1) time per year, and an eligible employee who passes the test does not need to retest to remain considered "proficient."
A test time will be scheduled based on your responses regarding your availability.
Please be sure you allow a full hour for arrival and completion of the online assessment. Testing is done at the FBUSD District Office, 312 South Lincoln Street.

First 5 Mendocino is thrilled to announce that Dr. Tina Payne Bryson is returning to Mendocino County on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, from 8:00am until 4:00 pm at the Ukiah Valley Conference Center.
This presentation is in connection with First 5 Mendocino's State of the Child training series. It will be an interactive & inspiring event for professionals in Mendocino County!
OBJECTIVES:
Understand why working with a child’s whole brain is necessary.
Learn the important tools for working with children to build healthy brain development.
Learn to nurture healthy connections and process trauma through whole-brain strategies.
From pregnancy to age 5, the most important thing for optimal development is the power of positive relationships. We are a community of many connections and great resilience. This conference will focus on how we work with kids and on understanding the whole-brain approach!

First 5 Mendocino is grateful for the Title IV-E grant funds, which help to provide this event. These funds are specifically allocated to provide training and support for professionals who work within Mendocino County organizations serving foster youth and/or youth at risk of entering the foster care system, including social workers, therapists, teachers, pediatricians, counselors, school administrators, etc. If you're unsure of your eligibility to attend, please contact our office: megan@first5mendo.org.
